Integrating Microsoft Teams into Corporate Meeting Spaces

In 2020 the unified communications trend will continue to gain popularity in corporate meeting spaces due to aging traditional hardware, advances in software development, multiple software developers entering the market, inclusion of the required software within mainstream products and a shift in the how we meet.

A rapidly growing platform is Microsoft Teams which is part of Office 365 Business Essentials and up. At the time of this writing, you can also download a free (no Commitment) version as per the Microsoft Team's website.

One manufacturer addressing this growing trend is Crestron Electronics with their FLEX Series products. The FLEX series offers a range of solutions which includes a desktop phone, tabletop devices, front of room and system integration kits.

We recently completed a project for a billion-dollar company which operates in 30 plus countries and has over eleven thousand employees. The chosen software platform was Microsoft Teams with hardware upgrades in existing meeting spaces.

Since we had to remove an existing system to perform the upgrade, the chosen solution was Crestron's FLEX C-Series integrator kit.

New LG 65-inch UHD displays were mounted in each meeting space using Chief's universal mount bracket system for a refined finish appearance.

The collaboration camera position offered a challenge since we wanted an on-center point of view. Our integration team designed and installed a concealment panel to cover the gap between the displays where the camera was mounted. The solution was creative offering a clean and professional finish.

The existing audio path was kept in place with the exception of the final point on conversion being achieved with a Shure USB interface into the FLEX system.

A new control system was also integrated which allows users to setup the room for various meeting types. With custom code development, the controller was also able to communicate with the Crestron Flex which is running the Microsoft Teams application. Additional code development allowed for FLEX to provide data and feedback to the control system. The user interface and mainline code was developed in-house by our Crestron Master Programmer.
